Real Club de Barcelona. 1909.
The Royal Barcelona Yacht Club has drawn the fashionable crowds to the coast to watch regatta teams vie for the Spanish championship. The event was held as a benefit for those wounded and killed in the War of Melilla, a conflict between the Moroccan Rif tribes and Spanish and French colonialists. At this time, the Spanish army was ill equipped and unprepared for battle, leading to a months-long struggle against the retaliation. The Spanish army eventually increased its troops and artillery to win the battle, but this would prove to be only a small part of the ongoing struggle between the two countries.
