Set in Lynchburg, Virginia at the turn of the 20th century, "The Vanishing Virginian" is a family chronicle written by Rebecca Yancey Williams for her son. The book's central figure is her father, Robert Davis Yancey, and it is the tale of Cap'n Bob Yancey, his charming and absent‐minded wife and all the Yancey children. This warm, hilarious and nostalgic book delves lightly and humorously into the issues of the time, including prohibition and women's suffrage. The book was made into a movie in 1942.
