Receipt signed by American businessman Thomas Oliver Larkin, at the height of the gold rush. The repayment was to cover $1,000 "advanced the Vessel in San Francisco - also Two Hundred and Nine dolls for Bread and Bacon purchased in San Francisco." The captain of the Brig Eveline was John B.R. Cooper, half-brother of Larkin and a California pioneer who married the daughter of Ignacio Vallejo (father of the later general, Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo). The Eveline seems to have been on her way to China to obtain supplies to sell to the gold seekers pouring into California.
Condition Report: Left margin torn roughly but no loss of text; very good.
