Red wooden panel with white jade plaque, Qing Dynasty

A Qing Dynasty (1644 and 1912) white jade plaque, carved and framed in red wood. The plate has a semi-oval shape and a good lobed profile. The plaque is carved on both sides and depicts, on the obverse, a border at the top centre, with two dragons each facing the ends and a central scroll, leaving space for a rope to pass through for use.

Framed in the centre is a garden scene, depicting three figures, two ladies and a knight seated at a table near a beautiful palm tree to their right and a tree at the other end. All this is supported by an elegant Phoenix placed in the lower central part of the plaque, which enhances the whole carving. On the reverse is a large relief script, signed by the author at the lower left of the text and stamped on the right side of the same image. This is framed in the centre with the same head and foot as the obverse.

Carving of great quality and technique. Naturally, everything is highlighted by the great beauty of the table-top frame made of red wood and with a high quality carving, all decorated in relief with dragon and scroll forms, leaving in the centre the great colour contrast of the jade plaque, as the centre and heart of the piece. Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912).

Jade size: 7.4 x 0.6 x 13.6 cm; frame size: 17.3 x 11.5 x 19.8 cm

Provenance: Current French private collection. -Previous owner of lot: 92, (Carved spinach green jade vase, Qing dynasty) Auction: Asian Art Auction 29 December 2022. Darley Auctions.
