Richard Stone Reeves (American, 1919-2005)
"Alleged was one of the outstanding Thoroughbreds of the 1970s and one of the greatest horses trained by Vincent O?Brien at Ballydoyle. Bred in Kentucky in 1974, he was by Hoist the Flag out of Princess Pout and was purchased by Robert Sangster and his associates before being sent to Ireland. O?Brien allowed the lightly raced colt time to mature and Alleged eventually developed into a formidable stayer. He won the Great Voltigeur Stakes, Royal Whip Stakes, and Gallinule Stakes in 1977 before finishing second in the St. Leger, the only defeat of his career. He then produced a brilliant performance at Longchamp, winning the Prix de l?Arc de Triomphe with Lester Piggott. In 1978," "Alleged returned to France and won the Arc again, becoming one of the few horses to achieve the historic double. He finished his career with nine victories from 10 starts.Retired to stud in Kentucky, Alleged became a successful sire, particularly of horses capable of staying longer distances. His notable progeny included Law Society, winner of the Irish Derby; Legal Case, winner of the Champion Stakes; Shantou, winner of the St. Leger; and Midway Lady, winner of the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks. He also sired Miss Alleged, winner of the Breeders? Cup Turf."
