Regency Inlaid Mahogany-veneer Wheel Barometer,
C. Galli (retailer), Edinburgh, Scotland, c. 1825.
Laminated wood case veneered with figured mahogany at front and sides, the front corners outlined in double-string inlay and all surmounted by a broken pediment centering a brass urn finial, fitted with four glazed brass frames, one covering a dial indicating "DRY / DAMP", over an arched recess in waist containing mercury thermometer over silvered plate inscribed with register from 25 to 125 degrees to indicate "Freezing / Temperate / Sum'r Heat / [and] Blood Heat", the large barometric dial at base numbered 28 to 31 and inscribed "STORMY / MUCH RAIN / RAIN / Change / FAIR / SET FAIR / VERY DRY" with adjustable brass-plated reference needle, and a spirit level mounted horizontally inside a brass plate inscribed "C. Galli / Waterloo Place / Edinburgh" across top and bottom, wd. 12, dp. 2 1/2, ht. 42 1/2 in.
