REGNIER, Jacques-Auguste La fête historique de Saint-Omer. Saint-Omer 1846 Drawing, pen and black ink on 3 glued sheets of paper, 40 x 70 cm, signed at lower left "Regnier" (trimmed at the left, stains and creases, large vert. fold at middle, several sm. tears in edges, sm. piece cut off at upper right, not affecting the image). A large oblong fragment of the great annual medieval parade, held in Saint-Omer at the Place Suger since 1840. A large crowd is gathered on the left side to witness the spectacle. Jacques-Auguste Regnier (1787-1860) was a French landscape painter who worked in the Romantic style. He also helped introduce the Troubadour style and was heavily influenced by English literature. His "Old Mortality" is on display at the Louvre.
