Reinhard Heydrich – A 49 piece Dinner Service from Prague CastleA dinner service served as headquarters for SS Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich in his duty as Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. This porcelain dinnerware was used exclusively by Heydrich and his staff as part of their formal service. Produced by the firm Haas & Czjzek (H&C) of Schlaggenwald in Sudetengau, it is made of fine white glazed porcelain and decorated edges, and rims of gold bands with a pattern of black SS runes interconnected by vines and berries. This is one of the more elegant dinner service patterns and of a quality superior that used by other senior personalities, such as the Reichsführer SS. This setting was removed from Prague Castle at wars end by local citizens and individual pieces occasionally surface. This surviving set encompasses a total of 49 individual pieces to include the following; (1) serving bowl with top, (1) meat platter, (1) charger, (11) dinner plates, (5) salad plates, (1) salad bowl, (4) soup bowls, (5) coffee cups, (6) coffee saucers, (3) tea cups, (2) tea saucers, (1) sugar bowl with top, spoon and (1) saucer, (1) water pitcher, (1) creamer, (1) coffee pot with top, (1) tea pot with top, (1) vegetable bowl with top, (1) gravy/sauce bowl and (1) saucer. All pieces are in exceptional condition with no damage or wear. Extremely rare and of limited use by only the staff and guests of the Reich Protector while at Prague Castle.Reinhard Tristan Eugen Heydrich (7 March 1904 – 4 June 1942) was a high-ranking German SS and police official. Heydrich was chief of the Reich Security Main Office (including the Gestapo, Kripo, and SD). He was also Stellvertretender Reichsprotektor (Deputy/Acting Reich-Protector) of Bohemia and Moravia. He was the founding head of the Sicherheitsdienst (Security Service, SD), an intelligence organization charged with seeking out and neutralizing resistance to the Nazi Party via arrests, deportations, and murders. Upon his arrival in Prague, Heydrich sought to eliminate opposition to the Nazi occupation by suppressing Czech culture and deporting and executing members of the Czech resistance. Heydrich was mortally wounded in Prague on 27 May 1942 as a result of Operation Anthropoid. He was ambushed by a team of Czech and Slovak soldiers who had been sent by the Czechoslovak government-in-exile to kill him; the team was trained by the British Special Operations Executive.
