Very large antique religious meerschaum (pipe clay) relief plaque Stations of the Cross.
The image concerns one part of the 14 parts of the Stations of the Cross. Jesus having to carry the cross is very detailed.
Originating from France, ca. 1850 and has always been in the same family, the object came to the Netherlands through passing on and inheritance in the family. There are still newspapers from 1900 on the back.
The whole is in good condition with minor signs of age and use. The back of the frame should have a wooden cross on top, which has not survived the test of time. There are some old woodworm holes at the back of the frame, but these are no longer active.
