Remarkable Letter from Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher of Greiditz Regarding the Influence of His Amulets (Kameyos); Greiditz, 1870
Long letter handwritten by Rabbi Eliyahu addressed to his son, Rabbi Tzvi.
Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher (1796 - 1874) was known by all as the "Tzaddik of Greiditz" and was one of the first and primary disciples of Rabbi Akiva Eiger in Poznań. He learn by Rabbi Akiva Eiger following his marriage and continued to remain in close contact with him after accepting a rabbinical position. His reputation won wide acclaim and people flocked to him from far and wide. Rabbi Tzvi, the recipient of the present letter, was an astounding Torah scholar who passed away young during his father’s lifetime. Rabbi Eliyahu published his sefer Nachlas Tzvi on tractate Kinnim and wrote that anyone looking for salvation should study his son’s commentary.
