Rembrandt Good Samaritan Etching
Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch, 1606-1669. Etching with drypoint on laid paper, titled "The Good Samaritan". Possibly an early state, bears chain lines and partial variant of the "Strasbourg Lily" watermark without visible crown or initials mid left of image extending into margin, before hatching on horse tail and lower signature/date. Has a 1 1/3" taped tear to paper at bottom extending 5/8" into image, 5/8" tear to lower left margin only, pin point size hole at horse's saddle noted when back lit, minor toning and foxing. Image 8 x 9 1/2" high on 9 5/8 x 11 1/8" high paper, in a Gilded wood frame, 15 1/4 x 17 1/2" high overall. ESTIMATE $1,000-1,500
