Description
A very fine impression of the scarce First State with burr on and beneath Tobias’ elbow, fine inky plate tone and fine wiping scratches in the floor covering. The trace of sulphur clearly visible in the white space between door and platemark on the left of the sheet. With a small margin of up to 6 mm around the edge of the plate. The Book of Tobit describes the fate of Tobit’s family in the style of the patriarchal narratives of Genesis. It does not originate from the Bible, but was listed in the Luther Bible among the Apocrypha, which enjoyed great popularity in the 17th century and led to numerous painted or graphic depictions. The plate was lost early on, there are no late prints. – A tiny repair to the upper left, next to the door. In very good condition.
