Comprising: a silver vanity case, the lid decorated with cabochon rubies and sapphires, enhanced with black enamel, opening to reveal two compartments, one containing a mirror, inscribed '9 juillet 1938'; and a lipstick holder similarly decorated with a suspension ring and chain, inscribed '9-7-1913'; each unsigned, French maker's and assay marks for silver.

Accompanied by René Boivin certificates of authenticity no. 202404PRS and no. 202404PRE, dated 15 April 2024, stating that the vanity case and lipstick holder were created circa 1938 after a drawing by Juliette Moutard.

a Françoise Cailles letter of authenticity, dated 7 March 2006, stating that the pieces were created by René Boivin in 1938.

Each unsigned. Vanity case inscribed '9 juillet 1938', lipstick holder inscribed '9-7-1913'. French maker's marks. French assay marks for silver between 1838 and 1973. Rubies purplish red of high saturation, heavily included, surface reaching inclusions, cavities and chips. Sapphires slightly violetish blue of medium saturation, moderately included, surface reaching inclusions, chips. Minor losses and damage to the enamel. Tarnish and scratches to the metal consistent with age and normal use, one lid of the vanity case does not close securely. In good condition overall. Vanity case measuring approximately 155 x 65mm, lipstick holder measuring approximately 50 x 20mm. Total gross weight approximately 344 grams.

Telling from their inscriptions, this case and lipstick holder were likely given as a present for a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.
