René-Jacques—born René Giton (1908–2003)—was a significant French photographer of the interwar and post-war periods. After initially working as an amateur photographer, he developed a versatile practice from the 1930s onwards, spanning reportage, illustration, and industrial, architectural, and street photography. Using his Leica, he captured everyday life in Paris, urban landscapes, people, and social milieus, while also working as a film still photographer and illustrator. His visual style combines precise composition with a keen interest in atmosphere, light, and human presence. Over the course of his career, he worked for clients such as *L’Intransigeant*, Grasset, and Renault, and served as a still photographer for directors including Georg Wilhelm Pabst and Jean Grémillon. René-Jacques’s work is closely aligned with the traditions of French humanist and subjective photography. In 1941, he joined "Le Rectangle," a group shaped by Emmanuel Sougez; from 1946, he was a founding member of the "Groupe des XV," exhibiting alongside Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Pierre Jahan, Marcel Bovis, and other photographers. François Kollar was also part of his broader circle of contemporaries; like René-Jacques, he was a key figure in French photography, working across the genres of reportage, industrial, and advertising photography. Together with Doisneau and Ronis, René-Jacques represents a poetic, human-centered form of documentary photography in which everyday life, street scenes, architecture, and social observation coalesce into a personal photographic vision of 20th-century France.

PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
