A monumental compilation of documents. A landmark work tracking France's Participation in the Establishment of the United States of America. The set was published and first available to the public at the 1889 World Fair, the "Exposition Universelle" held in Paris, France, from 6 May to 31 October 1889. It was held during the year of the 100th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, an event considered symbolic of the beginning of the French Revolution. Doniol (1818-1906), was an historian and senior French official. He compiled the record from archival documents, among which is the correspondence of Count de Vergennes, showing that the support provided by France to the United States was inspired by La Fayette's influence in sympathy with the American cause.
