Rhodochrosite "Shell" Kuruman, Kalahari Mn Field, Northern Cape,...
Rhodochrosite "Shell" Kuruman, Kalahari Mn Field, Northern Cape, South Africa "A spherical curved shell of rhodochrosite about 35 mm in diameter. It is only about 2 to 3 mm thick. Nearly a unique specimen. Got it from Clive Queit as part of a shipment. The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm." - Rock H. Currier If you had to guess how this specimen formed, probably the best conjecture would involve a dome shaped matrix of 'something,' possibly Calcite that the Rhodochrosite was deposited upon. Subsequent dissolution of the matrix would have left this epimorph - just a guess, what do you think? This is a strange Rhodochrosite - cute as a "button" - and Rock loved to collect all the strange and oddball variations of minerals he could find. Overall Measurements: 1.4 x 1.4 x 0.5 inches (3.5 x 3.5 x 1.3 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Clive Queit [RHC #3398, acquired 1977] MinID JMK-91A [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
