Le Mie Donne represent the first family of decorations created by Gio Ponti. Over the years, the architect brought significant variations to the Le Mie Donne series by having the designs applied on small and large plates, jar vases and large and small oval vases. With the aim of proposing a style suited to Parisian taste, on the occasion of the Exposition Nationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris in 1925, Ponti tried to synthesize the recovery of classicism with Art Déco.
\r
The Le Mie Donne series consists of three compositions: Women on the clouds, Women on the ropes and Women on the flowers. Among these, the women on the clouds were the first to be conceived and presented in the form of samples at the Monza exhibition in 1923. The drawings for this series consist of sketches of buildings and of women with slender forms, lying on clouds or held suspended in the air by ropes, which describe geometries with their elongated limbs. For the plates of the women on the clouds and the women on the ropes, these sketches were assembled by Ponti himself, who had designed each of the 'maidens' in the center of the plate, accompanied in the underlying part by a solid architectural construction made up of monuments evoking the world ancient or Renaissance. This is the typical Pontian composition for the series of plates of Le Mie Donne, where the architect managed to create a pleasant balance between the rigorous classicism of the architecture and the darting Deco of the figures. In the varied world of Le Mie Donne, where Ponti had given each one a name, in this case we see Donatella.
