Richard Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958)
Richard Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958)
Gloucester Fishing Schooners
Signed "Hayley Lever" lower right.
Watercolor on paper, sight size 15 3/8 x 19 3/4 in. (39.0 x 50.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Toning, creasing across the corners and in the sail on the far right, rippling, small nick to paper surface upper left, not examined out of frame.
Estimate $2,000-3,000
In the lower left corner there is what at first looks like a loss, but it is just an area where the paper is unpainted. Uneven line of toning across the top edge.
Framed dimensions are 24 x 27 3/4 x 1 1/8 inches.
A label on the frame backing paper states that the work is glazed with UV70 anti-reflective glass.
Frame was opened during preview, and the following condition notes were added: Sheet measures 16 x 20. Paper feels somewhat fragile with subtle rippling. There is toning, but the watercolor remains vibrant with little suggestion of fading. Work is hinged on the back mat in two places along the top edge of the reverse. Pencil line down the right edge. Small tear (3/4 inch) to upper left corner and a diagonal crease to that area. Dog-ear type crease to lower left corner measuring 6 1/2 inches across the hypotenuse, ending with a 1/4 inch tear at the lower edge. Other handling creases and wear to the edges. Thin pieces of masking tape (1/4 to 3/8 inch wide) along some of the edges of the reverse.
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
