Richard Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958)
Richard Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958)
In the Catskills
Signed "Hayley Lever" lower left, titled and dated "...1932" on a masking tape label affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 16 1/4 x 20 1/4 in. (41.0 x 51.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Lined, minor craquelure, minor surface grime.
Estimate $2,500-3,500
Label from Clayton-Liberatore Art Gallery, Bridgehampton, New York, affixed to the stretcher. Further information on the artist also noted on a masking tape label across the top of the stretcher, which further notes that the painting was "rehinged" (?) "5/10/72" (?). Perhaps this is the date of relining? The handwriting there is difficult to read.
When looking at the white highlights, it appears that some of the grime may lie beneath the varnish layer.
Framed dimensions are 21 1/4 x 25 x 2 inches
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
