The presidential autograph comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by former collector Doug Wertman, who describes his experience obtaining Nixon's autograph in an elevator lobby!
In part:
"On March 11-12, 1992, the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace held a conference on 'America's Role in the Emerging World' at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C… I went to the Four Seasons with the hope of getting his autograph. I missed him on the way in… As he was finishing, I went up to the door near the stage… hoping I could get his autograph as he left. However, to my surprise, Nixon walked in the other direction, and I followed him… he turned around to take the elevator, and I asked to sign a sheet of White House stationery, which he did. This was one of the most interesting autograph experiences I ever had…"
In addition to Wertman's COA, the Nixon signed "White House" leaf comes with an original "Program of Events" from the conference, listing Nixon's luncheon address, "The New World," on p. 2. Also comes with a newspaper clipping from "The Washington Post" annotated by Wertman.
