Ring with udjad. Culture Ancient Egypt, New Empire period, 18th - 20th Dynasty, 1550 - 1070 BC .

Provenance: Private collection of J. Martà , Barcelona. Purchased at the Barcelona art market.
Measurements: 1,8 cm (inner diameter).
These pieces were made from two separate clay moulds, as evidenced by the hundreds recovered from excavations at the site of Amarna. The earthenware paste was pressed into each mould, the bevel and shank, and the resulting pieces were joined together. The glaze was then applied and the whole ring was fired.
The Eye of Horus, Udyat "he who is complete", was a symbol of apotropaic characteristics, i.e. magical, protective, purifying, healing, a solar symbol embodying order, the undisturbed, the perfect state. The Udyat is a symbol of cosmic-state stability.
