Rishfei Esh, essays by the wonder-worker Rabbi Mordechai of Neshkizh, with compilations. Warsaw, 1869. First edition. Extremely rare! Copy which belonged to Rabbi Shmuel Heller, rabbi of Safed, with his signature on the title page and along the book's leaves.
Rabbi Shmuel Heller [1803-1884] was the rabbi and leader of the Ashkenazic community in Safed for over forty years. He was a native of Galicia. Before they ascended to the Land of Israel, his grandfather, Rabbi Avraham Peretz, was considered one of the Seer of Lublin's closest associates, and this fact allowed for meetings between his grandson and the Chozeh, Rabbi Ya'akov Yitzchak Horowitz. Three generations of the extended family arrived and settled in Safed and in Tiberias, apparently between 1812 and 1814. The family was counted among the scholarly elite of Eastern Europe. Rabbi Shmuel held a very central role in the leadership of the Jewish community of Safed. At first, as a close associate of those who led the community, and then after the passing of his teacher, Rabbi Avraham Dov of Ovrutch, author of Bat Ayin, in 1840, Rabbi Shmuel Heller became the top figure in the settlement's leadership until his own passing. He was also close to the great tzaddikim in the Diaspora, who placed much faith in his leadership of the Safed community. His books: Derech Nesher, Sinai 1929.ֲ Kevod Melachimֲ - about burning clothes on Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai's yahrzeit, Jerusalem, 1874; Refuot V'Segulot, Jerusalem 1907.
[2], 10 leaves. High quality paper, very fine condition, without worming perforations at all! Stains on the title page; the remainder of the book is in excellent condition. New binding. Stefansky, Chassidut 542.
