Riverside Pastimes: An Attractive Fan featuring a busy riverside gathering, wooden boats crossing from side to side, ferrying wealthy couples to and fro, one boat decked out with hangings for shelter. The basic monture, of wood painted white to the recto, has gilding to the guards and is coloured in several autumnal shades, on the gorge. Signed to the right, possibly R Serand. Mounted à l'Anglaise, the verso is plain. Together with A Simple Silk Palmette or Jenny Lind Fan, in cream, embroidered with sequins, the monture of bone, fitted with a cream silk tassel. The verso is plain; A Wood Fan with shaped black cotton leaf, the monture black with a mottled effect, the leaf painted with simple flowers either side of a young girl descending a flight of steps. The verso is plain; A Black Wood Fan, mounted with a black silk and machine lace leaf, the areas in silk embroidered with sequins; A Black Wood Fan with black silk leaf painted with Spanish dancers in colourful costumes, the top border being cream machine lace.
