Rob Vermeer was born in 1944 in Haarlem. His artistic skills were noticed when he was a boy and that is why he was able to visit 3 local artists to be inspired by their painting. He started working as a decorator and set painter and continued painting harbor and cityscapes. But when Rob Vermeer became interested in Eastern philosophies, his ideas about life and his work began to change. After visiting "Stonehenge" in Great Britain, where he spent a day sitting in this megalithic stone circle, his painting style took a completely new turn. As he says: "Something became clear to me as I sat there that day. . . something important. I have been painting myths ever since. My goal is to say things that cannot be put into words. Through images that are imbued with the power of true myth.
