Robert Andrew Parker (American, 1927–2023), County Clare, Eire IX, 1967 Color Lithograph
Robert Andrew Parker (American, 1927–2023) was a painter, printmaker, and illustrator recognized for his fluid draftsmanship and watercolor-like handling of line and color. Educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Parker worked extensively in fine-art printmaking, editorial illustration, and book illustration. His work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, National Gallery of Art, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and Norton Simon Museum.
County Clare, Eire IX, 1967, is a color lithograph from zinc and stone printed in transparent green, two blues, and brown on German Etching paper and published by Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Los Angeles. The ninth image in Parker’s twelve-print County Clare, Eire portfolio, it suggests a coastal landscape beneath unsettled weather. A dark, irregular ridge crosses the lower half of the image, while pale green and blue passages open through the sky beyond it, giving the scene the appearance of light breaking over distant water or land. Inscribed in graphite “Tam. Imp.” lower left and signed “Robert Andrew Parker” lower right, with the Tamarind bell and Serge Lozingot printer’s blindstamps near the lower center. The “Tam. Imp.” inscription identifies this as a workshop-retained Tamarind impression rather than a numbered impression from the regular edition. Verso inscribed “2141 / German Etching Paper.” Sheet measures approximately 16.875 x 11.5 inches. Overall very good appearance, with light handling along the naturally deckled edges. Image presents well. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
