[ translate ]

Robert Andrew Parker (American, 1927–2023) was a painter, printmaker, and illustrator recognized for his fluid draftsmanship and watercolor-like handling of line and color. Educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Parker worked extensively in fine-art printmaking, editorial illustration, and book illustration. His work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, National Gallery of Art, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and Norton Simon Museum.

County Clare, Eire V, 1967, is a lithograph from aluminum and stone printed in four grays on Copperplate Deluxe paper and published by Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Los Angeles. The fifth image in Parker’s twelve-print County Clare, Eire portfolio, it shows a dark island or rocky headland extending across the horizon beneath two long white clouds. The foreground is treated as a broad stretch of water, its surface broken by loosely drawn horizontal lines and darker reflections. Inscribed in graphite “Tamarind Imp.” lower left and signed “Robert Andrew Parker” lower right, with the Tamarind bell and Bruce Lowney printer’s blindstamps near the lower center. The “Tamarind Imp.” inscription identifies this as a workshop-retained Tamarind impression rather than a numbered impression from the regular edition. Verso inscribed “2137 / Copperplate / Deluxe.” Sheet measures approximately 17 x 11.125 inches. Overall very good appearance. The margins show a faint rectangular mat line and a few minute scattered marks, with light handling along the sheet edges. Image presents well. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
