Condition Report: Unlined canvas. A 3 by 2 inch rectangular patch to the reverse of the canvas in upper right quadrant. A circular patch, approximately 1x2-inch in diameter, to reverse of canvas at upper left. Visible retouching on front of canvas to both of these areas, particularly to the sky at upper right. Scattered pinpoints of white accretion, probably paint. A small cluster of pinpoints of darkened accretion at upper half of right edge. Finely patterned craquelure throughout. Mild surface dust. Not examined out of frame due to size.
Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly. Retouching to areas coinciding with aforementioned patches. Apparent strengthening applied to mid-tone greens, particularly at the peaks of the hills in the background at right, and the edges of the trees in the middle ground. Brushy retouching near the edges, with one fine line of retouching affecting the second L in the signature. Scattered finely applied retouches to the figures. Some larger, but very fine retouches to the ground, foliage, and buildings in the foreground.
