Robert Armstrong (1950)
Robert Armstrong (as L.B. Armstrong) SNARF #6 Complete 2-Page Story "Don't Rain on My Parade" Original Art (Kitchen Sink Press, 1976). Musician-cartoonist Armstrong portrays author Harvey (né Herschele) Pekar as he defends his junk-food dietary preferences over objections from friends and family. The dialogue veers into music (jazz) -- a shared interest of Pekar and Armstrong. This story reappeared in Pekar's New American Splendor Anthology (1991). Armstrong is also known as a guitarist with Robert Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders ensemble, and as the artist-writer responsible for the Underground Comix series Mickey Rat. Ink and collage effect (photo of Pekar) over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 9" x 12.75". Minor adhesive seams. Excellent condition. From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
