Robert Crumb Pioneers of Country Music Collector-Card Layout Original Art and Accompanying Poster Group of 2 (Yazoo Records/Kitchen Sink Press 1985-2007). Underground Comix trailblazer Crumb's original art, here, is strictly a matter of hand-lettering on a large scale -- an art-form in itself. The piece was designed to promote a collector-card set featuring Crumb's portraits of such hillbilly/backwoods musicians as Mac McClintock, the Carter Family, and Gid Tanner. Originated by Yazoo Records (a label specializing in historic American vernacular music), the card set was picked up at length for a Kitchen Sink Press edition. Accompanied by a gloss-finish poster reproduction. The lettering/artwork comprises ink and white-paint retouching on Bristol board, with a translucent color-guide overlay. Image area, 13" x 16".
