A custom-engineered precision shell measurement tool designed for high-accuracy handloading and inspection of rifle cartridges. The assembly is built upon a solid machined aluminum base block which supports a chrome-plated steel cradle. This cradle features four integrated ball-bearing rollers designed to allow a cartridge to rotate freely while under inspection. The device incorporates three separate mechanical dial indicators mounted on articulated brass and steel arms for simultaneous measurement of different cartridge points. The primary vertical instrument is a white-faced dial indicator marked Starrett, No. 25-B, 0-25-0, .0005 inch, THE L.S. STARRETT CO. ATHOL, MASS. U.S.A., MADE IN U.S.A., and AD. It features graduations in half-thousandths of an inch. A second lever-type indicator is marked LAST WORD, No. 711-G, MADE IN U.S.A. with a scale from 0 to 15. The third lever-type indicator is marked GEM, CLEVELAND, O. U.S.A. with a scale from 0 to 15. A hand-written adhesive tag accompanying the tool reads Custom Made Shell Measurer, Takes 3 Diff. measurements, Made By Robert D. Mauger. A single brass cartridge casing present in the images is marked LAPUA 220 RUSSIAN on the headstamp. The aluminum base contains several additional drilled and tapped holes from the manufacturing or modification process. Length: 5.5 inches Width: 3 inches Height: 6.5 inches.
