Robert Doisneau (1912–1994) was a French photographer and one of the most renowned figures of humanist photography. After training as an engraver and working initially as a photographer—including as an industrial photographer—he increasingly turned his attention to everyday life in Paris. Using his Leica, he captured streets, suburbs, cafés, markets, and, above all, the lives of children; spontaneous encounters, playful situations, and casual moments became characteristic subjects of his work. His photographs appeared in *Vogue* and other international magazines. Doisneau became famous for his poetic yet humorous view of Paris—a perspective that treated the daily lives of ordinary people with the same seriousness as unusual situations, thereby leaving a lasting mark on the visual culture of post-war France. His work belongs to the tradition of French humanist and subjective photography and is closely linked to photographers such as Willy Ronis, Pierre Jahan, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Together with Ronis and other members of the *Groupe des XV*, he developed a human-centric form of street and documentary photography in which Paris itself becomes a protagonist. At the same time, Doisneau was deeply connected to the Parisian art scene, photographing artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Picasso, and Georges Braque. His images of children and their street culture clearly reveal his interest in play, movement, and the realities of everyday social life. Spanning reportage, artist portraiture, and poetic street photography, his work thus bridges the humanist tradition with a personal and often humorous visual language.
