Beautiful, more than 100-year-old drawing on thick drawing paper, probably an illustration for a textbook from publisher Malmberg, O. I. ink .

Many years ago I bought an archive from this publisher. It contained a number of drawings by Graafland, including some signed copies.

The Maastricht painter and illustrator Rob Graafland (1875-1940) trained in Amsterdam.
In 1898 he became a drawing teacher at the Stadtekeneninstituut in Maastricht. In 1910 he exhibited with Piet Mondriaan and Jan Sluijters in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
He was the founder of the Maastricht School together with Jan Bakhoven.

In addition to his activities as a painter, Rob Graafland also made many book illustrations in the 1920s, often with a Roman Catholic slant.
