\Artist: Robert Kemm (1837-1895)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 69_5_79_cm
Robert Kemm (Salisbury, 1837-London, 1895) was an English romantic painter. Like other artists from his country such as John Phillip, Edwin Long or John Bagnold Burgess, he travelled to Spain around 1861 and toured especially Andalusia, looking for inspiration in landscapes and traditional scenes such as El bautizo, con la salida de la iglesia de majas y toreros, or the Galanteo en la fuente, both preserved at the Museum of Romanticism. 1 He depicted on the canvas figures representing bullfighters, bandits, beggars, guitarists and different popular characters. Many of his works reflect the atmosphere of the city of Seville, such as the one entitled The Spanish fruit seller in which a saleswoman is represented and in the background the Giralda (the bell tower of Seville’s Cathedral) can be distinguished. The frame is a gift from the gallery thus it cannot be subject to any claim
