Robert Phillips - A Victorian Archaeological revival agate locket, central oval shaped agate cabochon, approximately 30 x 26mm, surrounded by a decorative scalloped border of banded agate and black and white enamel, verso, a hinged locket with a photograph of a smartly dressed gentleman which opens up to a glazed compartment with woven hair on one side and a monogram on the other, engraved '25TH JULY 1869', vacant hook, agate and enamel fancy bale, length including bale 5.7cm, width 3.8cm, unmarked, tested as 18ct gold, weight 43.8g, maker's mark of Robert Phillips of Cockspur St Robert Phillips was one of the most sought-after revivalist jewellers of the nineteenth century. His work can be seen in the permanent collections of museums such as The British Museum, The Ashmolean and The Fitzwilliam.
