Robert Pummill (American, b. 1936) Teamwork, 1982 Oil on canvas 36 x 48 inches (91.4 x 121.9 cm) Signed and dated lower right: Pummill 82 PROVENANCE: Private collection, Dallas, Texas. Robert Pummill was elected to membership in the in 1984 and found great inspiration in Texas where he became a full time painter in 1977. "Teamwork, 1982" exemplifies Pummill’s ability to capture the partnership between horse and man – an essential unity that defines the true spirit of the American West. This monumental work showcases men hard at work amongst the oil derricks on a cold winter evening. Work horses are set against the gentle light of the setting sun as they trudge through the snow-covered fields. Pummill states that "My choice of western subject matter is the result of a lifelong fascination with the life of the cowboy and the drama of opening and development of the American West."
