(*) A very fine, rare gold enamel hunting case pocket watch of high nobility property - presentation watch by a European dignitary for the Ottoman market Movm. No. 13539, Case No. 17539, Dimensions 53 mm, circa 1843, Weight 120 g, Origin England Case: 18 K gold and polychrome enamel, lavishly engraved, fluted caseband, case maker punch mark "D&A", missing pusher in the pendant. Dial: Enamel, radial Ottoman numerals, auxiliary seconds at "3". Movm.: Full plate movement, chain/fusee, English lever escapement, three-arm steel balance. The front is decorated with a central polychrome gold enamel cartouche showing the portrait of a peer wearing a plumed helmet and carrying a sword. The caseback shows a princely crown above an exquisitely engraved red enamel monogram. Robert Roskell was a qualified watch and clockmaker in Liverpool and London. Due to his various partnerships and takeovers he signed in turn with: "Robert & Son", "Hunt & Roskell", "Robert Roskell Liverpool" or "Roskell Liverpool". Case: very good. Dial: very good.
