Robert Swain Gifford (1840-1905, NY, Fairhaven

MA) etching titled "The Path to the Shore", alternately titled "Solitude". Pictured on page 65, no. 19 in David Wright's "A Catalogue of Etchings, 1865-1891, R. Swain Gifford". R. Swain was known as the etcher's etcher. He was a member of the New York Etching Club where he taught the medium to other artists. Signed lower left and dated 1879. Sight size 5" x 8 1/2", overall in a modern frame with new mat and UV glass 11 1/2" x 14 1/2".
