[ translate ]

\Artist: Roberto Sebastian Matta (1911-2002)
Technique: Acquaforte acquatinta\Signature: Hand signed
Original aquatint etching by master Roberto Sebastian Matta, engraved in three engraved plates in an edition of 150 copies, 40 x 50 cm. Embossed stamp of the publisher and certificate of authenticity in accordance with the law, signed in pencil by the master and printed in 1984. The portfolio “L’autoapocalipse” contains 4 engravings made in 1984. The serial number may be different from that of the images. The artist’s life seems to come out of a novel: lover of art and women, citizen of the world with an existence spent between Chile, Paris, New York, and Italy, defining Matta’s art would mean setting limits to its up-to-dateness. A modern Ulysses, as he called himself for his desire to always cross new boundaries (not only geographic ones but also experiential ones) , he spoke many languages (Spanish, French, English, Italian) mixing them in his own language. From the point of view of an academic biography, it could be said that Matta was the great protagonist of late surrealism. Not only he paved the way for American abstract expressionism with his production, but he exerted - and still exerts - an important influence on contemporary artists.
