The Rolex GMT was launched in 1954 after the Transatlantic Airways company asked Rolex to produce a watch useful for their pilots. It quickly gained favour among the Pan-Am executives and the business jet-set community as a whole.

Offered continuously since its introduction with relatively little modification it is perhaps, along with the Submariner, the most classic Rolex 'tool' watch made. The reference 1675 began production 80 years ago in 1960. This was the first GMT Master reference to feature protective crown guards as well as the smaller triangular tip on the second hour hand.
