Catalogue Note:
The Rolex reference 6263 nicknamed 'Oyster Sotto', Italian for 'Oyster Under', or 'RCO' for 'Rolex Cosmograph Oyster', is one of these watches that turns heads whenever it appears on the market. It is believed that about 20 watches with this configuration have ever been built.

The reference 6263 was a game changer for Rolex. They had introduced a chronograph that was finally waterproof and could join its Oyster watches. The first being introduced in 1926. The 'Oyster Sotto' Daytonas are believed to be the first 6263s produced. The particularity of the these few watches is that the Paul Newman dials were initially fitted for references 62623 and 6264. Prior to its introduction, some exotic dials were sent back to Singer to add 'Oyster' on the dial.

There are two versions of this dial configuration:

Mark I

This series has very close serial numbers starting with 2'085. The legs in the 'R' from Rolex are larger apart than with the Mark II. The 'G' from Cosmograph is serifed.

Mark II

This serie is later in the production. It can be found on serials 2'197 and higher. The 'R' from Rolex is more serifed and the legs are closer together. The 'G' from Cosmograph is rounder and not serifed. Fewer Mark II have appeared on the market in the recent years in comparison to the Mark I.

This very example is a part of the very rare Mark II series. Its serial number is 2'200'195. The 'R' has close and serifed legs and the 'G' is rounded as per the Mark II features. The case back is stamped '6239' and 'C.R.S.'.

This timepiece is a part of history and is would be a pièce de résistance in any collection. It is offered in good and very attractive condition accompanied by its original bracelet.
