In 1976 Rolex launched the Sea-Dweller, Reference 1665, better known as Double Red. Named for its twin lines of red dial text; 'Sea-Dweller' and 'Submariner 2000', and it was originally built for and in conjunction with COMEX – the French saturation diving pioneers. The Double Red was designed to go incredible depths up to 2000ft, and the Helium Escape Valve was a revolutionary pressure release vent that allow built up gases accumulate inside the case during extended time under deep waters. During its production, there were various dial versions created, with Mark IV being the most common. However, it is still extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors. The present lot possesses a Mark IV dial, the coronet has broader fingers and a more pronounced opening and, complete with presentation box and certificate.
