Reference 1680 was the first ever Submariner to feature a date and a cyclops lens in the plexiglass. Moreover it was the first Submariner to be produced in gold, for clients seeking for a touch of luxury with professional capabilities. The present example is a great specimen in yellow gold, absolutely rare with its originally blue dial and unidirectional blue bezel for checking decompression time spans. In superb overall condition, this 1680 has a sharp-edged case with nice yellow-gold Oyster bracelet. The vivid blue dial differs from its stainless steel examples as it features never seen before “nipple” indexes and is conserved incredibly. The present watch is among the most significant yellow-gold Submariners to have been offered at auction in the recent years.
