Catalogue Note:
First introduced in 1959, the Submariner reference 5512 was produced for 20 years. This new reference launched several notable changes to the Submariner. Firstly, the case size increased to 40 mm and for the very first time, Rolex introduced crown guards. Manufactured in 1979, the present lot is fitted with a matte dial with four lines of text, from the final production series before it was discontinued in 1980. The last series of matte dials that Rolex used in the Submariners are known by collectors as the Maxi Dials. This Mk.3 dial also known as the "Lollipop" dial is also the most sought-after MAXI dial variant among all no-date matte dial Submariners, this is because the Mk. 3 features the largest lume plots of the 5 variants in the MAXI dial range.
