Condition Report:
Case: The case is in overall very good condition with signs of previous polishing. The case back with some surface scratches and minor pitting. The bezel with signs of use commensurate with age. The bracelet is in overall very good condition with signs of polishing as well. The bracelet is stamped '7835 19', end links stamped '271', and clasp stamped '3 71'.
Dial: The dial is in overall excellent condition. The chronograph hand with signs of oxidation. The luminous plots and hands have aged throughout and remain intact.
Movement: The movement is running at time of cataloging, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.

This reference 6263 ‘Panda’ Paul Newman is presented fresh to the market and has been kept, since it’s original purchase, with all original accessories including the presentation box, Guarantee booklet dated Dec 6, 1971, and operating instructions. The complete nature of the present lot makes this example the ultimate trophy for a Rolex Daytona collector.
The present Paul Newman Panda is fitted with a mark 1.5 Singer dial with a crisp ivory and black coloring. It is fitted with the correct 5-point Rolex crown, which displays the coronet only. The reference is also recognized for its screw-down pushers for improved water resistance. The art-deco style of the font used and the hash marks with small squares found on the subsidiary dial are characteristic of "Paul Newman" style dials.
The Rolex ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona is named after the world-renowned endurance race ‘24 Hours of Daytona’ and to actor Paul Newman (who participated in the race with this model and featured it in several of his films), who has truly established the model’s place in history as one of the most iconic wristwatches of all time.
We are pleased to offer the present lot in good condition and complete with box and papers, an extremely difficult feat in today’s complex and growing vintage Rolex market.
