After the Daytona, the Submariner is Rolex's most popular reference and widely considered a classic among wristwatches. The 16800 is the successor to reference 1680, the first Submariner to feature a date indication. For the 16800, Rolex provided an upgraded sapphire crystal and added a quickset feature for the date. Rolex introduced the 16800 in 1979 and continued production for only five years.
