Roman 22K+ Gold & Carnelian Intaglio Ring - 4.1 g

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A gorgeous ring - truly emblematic of the luxury arts in the Classical World - comprised of a 94% gold (equivalent to 22K+) setting with an elegantly curved shank presenting a central ridge and an oval carnelian intaglio depicting the goddess Fortuna (Tyche), cloaked and standing facing right, donning a plumed wreath on her head, and holding a stylized cornucopia (horn of plenty) to bring about prosperity and good luck with a rudder by her side next to her leg. In addition to this wonderful iconography, the stone inherently beautiful, boasting rich autumn red hues. A very fine example demonstrating impressive artistry! Size: cabochon measures .375" L x .25" W (1 cm x 0.6 cm); US ring size: 5.
