Roman Bronze Crossbow Fibula Finger Rings & Hair Coil

Roman, Imperial Period to Byzantine Empire, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A group of 4 ancient bronze adornments: a crossbow fibula, a hair coil, a ring, and ring fragment. The fragmentary signet face is engraved with a lion, and the intact signet is etched with an asymmetrical linear motif. The hair coil is made from a thick bronze wire, coiled into a tight spiral for a woman to weave into their locks of hair. The "crossbow" fibula brooch was used to fasten garments, and this type is often found in military graves, and they seem to have been very popular with the Roman army due to their weapon symbolism. Condition Report: Missing band on lion ring- recent loss with abraded shoulders, unwearable. Heavy wear to band on etched ring, and very thin area / weak point on the shank with bending. Coiled ring is intact with heavy patina and mineral deposits. Fibula has some wear, but otherwise intact, but the pin is encrusted into place and immobile. Nice green patina to all pieces.
