[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $650**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An attractive ensemble of metal objects from the Roman empire: a bronze handle, a leaded bronze base of a handle, a bronze foot of an animal, a leaded brass pin, and a brass maskette. First, the bronze handle presents a swooping, arched form with abstract designs throughout and the open-mouthed head of a grotesque at the base. Next, the leaded bronze handle base displays a vertical mid-rib that travels down the body and terminates at the head of a putto with a striated coiffure. Third, the bronze zoomorphic foot is likely that of a griffin, showing the lower half of a bowed leg and muscular toes with sharp talons. Alternatively, the leaded brass pin features the head of a male with a top bun, indicating that it is likely intended as Apollo. A cylindrical tang extends from the verso. Last, the maskette exhibits in the form of a youthful visage wearing a Phrygian cap. Size of largest: 5.1" L x 1.3" W (13 cm x 3.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Arts du Monde, new York, New York, USA, before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
