Roman Bronze Votive Figure of God Mercury

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A richly detailed cast bronze statue of the god Mercury. He wears his distinctive winged petatus as he stands, holding a wallet (one of his symbols) in an outstretched hand. His chlamys is draped over his shoulders and one arm. Mercury, the god of commerce, poetry, and travelers, guided Roman souls to the underworld. This would have been a votive figure, perhaps made to be kept in a wealthy home and prayed to, deposited in a temple as an offering, or kept for ritual with other metallic objects by priests. Size: 1" W x 2.5" H (2.5 cm x 6.4 cm); 4.45" H (11.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition Report: One hand is lost and one leg has been repaired. Repair is very well done and difficult to see. Rich, dark patina with nicely preserved details.
