Roman Coin & Glass Pendant w/ Aquamarine Stones

[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. This is a unique pendant comprised of Roman glass, a bronze coin, and aquamarine stones, set in a modern sterling silver bezel. The lower portion of the bezel lip encloses a tear-drop shaped piece of ancient Roman glass of a sea green hue with areas of rainbow iridescence; this glass likely comes from a discarded vessel. Set above are 2 faceted aquamarine stones that add great visual interest to the pendant. The bronze coin has a rich, green patina that slightly obscures the faces, however the standing she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus is visible on the front side of the pendant (the reverse of the coin), and the open bezel shows the coin's obverse of a helmeted bust facing left. The pendant is strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp as a truly unique piece of wearable history! Size (pendant): 2.125" L x 0.75" W (5.4 cm x 1.9 cm); (cord): 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92%; total weight: 8.7 grams

Provenance: ex-Sedona, Arizona, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
